We took a day trip out to a little town called Colan. It is located on the coast between Paita and Sullana. It is a vacation town that survives on summer and weekend visitors. There is also a very old church, supposedly one of the oldest catholic churches in South America. It is in a rather desolate location. As we drove into town you can see it right behind the blue sign below. I was hoping to be able to see inside but it was all locked up. We had to be content to wander around the outside of it.
We drove into town and wandered down to the beach. We were the only ones there. Not the most beautiful beach in Peru.
Adrian and Chad
Adrian in front of the old church. There were hundreds of little, fast lizards everywhere. I should have taken a picture of one of them.
Here is the view from the steps on the front of the church looking out towards the ocean.
Here is the view looking towards town, a few of the houses.
Chad parked the car under one of the few big trees.
We can now say that we have been to Colan.
