June 2013 - Arroz

On our drive north between Sullana and Talara there is a lot of agriculture in this area, it is developed with canals and wherever there is water it is amazing to see all that is grown.  Here are some pictures of the rice paddies that go for as far as the eye can see.  They were just starting to harvest in some areas - so here are pictures of RICE!

Chad showing us the little grains of rice at the ends of the stalks
These little fields are usually swamped with water, they are drying things out right now so they can come in and harvest.
We saw this little plant growing along all the ditch banks.  I just thought it was a weed, it looked kind of weedy.  Laura got all excited though when she saw it.  She said its a  something or other plant that is sensitive to your touch.  And sure enough when you would touch it all the little leaves would just curl up, to protect itself I suppose.  Anyway we spent quite a bit of time touching leaves and watching them curl up, we are easily amused.
