September/October 2012

Wow is all I can say, time just flies by.  We wake up each morning and wonder what adventures the day will hold.  We are surrounded by good, kind people and wonderful missionaries.  Here is a glimpse of what we have been up to.

Elder Chica (Colombia), Pdte. Rowley (Utah!), Elder Canete (Paraguay)
Chad's wonderful first assistants.  They are special young men and have taken such good care of us and taught us well.  We love them.

This is a picture of an invasion.  In Peru when you want a home of your own, you go out and just stake out a spot, usually with several other families.  You mark out your square of earth, dig cornerposts for bamboo stakes and tack up cardboard, tin, whatever you've got, put some coragated metal on top with a couple of rocks, tires or whatever to hold the roof on and there you go.  No water, electricity, sewer nothing.  With time as the invasion grows within a few years the city may start hooking you up with services.  But its yours and many call this home.

The fishing boats of Peru.  I think they look like what Nephi might have built many years ago.  In the ports of Sechura, Paita & Talara there are countless numbers of these wooden boats.  They are all unique in their colors and names.

A beautiful catholic cathedral in Sechura, a city to the south of Piura.

In September we had special Zone Conferences with Elder Waddell of the Seventy.  He spent several days with us touring our mission.  We learned alot from him and so did our missionaries.  Here we were in a Zone Conference with the Zone of Castilla.

Here we are in the most beautiful baptismal font we have seen.  In the city of Tambo Grande there is just a little house for a chapel so when there are baptisms they go to some natural springs about a half hour away.  We did a little off road driving to get there, crossed a stream where some sheep were grazing.  Actually we wouldn't have been surprised to find Ammon there watching the sheep.  The ponds were very pretty and most of the little branch were there also.  They met at their church, loaded a big flat bed truck with chairs from the churc and all piled in and off they went.  This was the baptism of Benjamin Franklin ----(I don't remember his last name) and 2 children from the branch.

Every six weeks we have missionaries going home and new ones coming.  A bitter sweet day or two.  When we go to the airport a brother from our ward, Bro. Chunga, brings his truck and we load it with suitcases and missionaries and off to the airport we go.  Luckily it is not too far away!  Here is Elders Bricca (Argentina) and Canete (Paraguay) holding on and enjoying the ride.

In the city of Talara there is a beautiful statue of Christ overlooking the city.  There are some very pretty gardens surrounding the statue.  Not a lot of green in this city so this little park is very well kept.
From the statue looking down on the city of Talara and the ocean.

It's Preparation Day!  Everyone loves to play volley  ball (and soccer).  The missionaries even let Chad play with them.
 Some Happy Missionaries
