La "Piura" Vida: Quito, Ecuador October 29-November 1, 2012

Every six months there is an Area Mission Presidents Seminar and this time it was held in Quito, Ecuador. We felt like country bumpkins seeing a big city for the first time. There were tall buildings, paved streets that were somewhat organized, no moto taxis, McDonalds, etc.. It was kind of fun to see familiar names. Quito is a beautiful city and we really enjoyed our time there. We had 2 days of seminars and meetings and 1 day to see the area. It was a nice little break, my phone didn't work so I just prayed no one needed us too badly and then enjoyed the time away.

One evening we had a program by a YSA (JAS) group from an Indian village from a nearby area. They performed with Andean musical instruments and some beautiful dances. The costumes were gorgeous.

Ecuador is known for its beautiful flowers and the hotel had arrangements throughout that they changed every few days. These are a few (I took ALOT of flower pictures) of my favorites. The roses were amazing.

An authentic shrunken head. This tribe would shrink the heads of their heros etc after they died. It is thought to bring the recipients power and luck etc. We were told they no longer shrink human heads but they still do animal heads.
